Saara Alhopuro

Saara Alhopuro was born in Turku, Finland. She has then lived in seven different countries, and traveled in nearly 100. Alhopuro now lives in Helsinki, Finland, and works in both Helsinki and Turku, as an artist, photographer and diplomat.

Alhopuro held her first private photography exhibition in 2007, when she was working professionally as a journalist and photographer. Since then she has had several private and group exhibitions, and participated in many installations, both in Finland and abroad.

Alhopuro has a Photographer’s Degree from Helsinki Design School.

She is a board member of the Counter Culture Association Eldis in Helsinki.

Alhopuro’s land art has been featured in national and international media in over 20 languages. In 2018 it won the Kosmos Art Rally and she was invited to exhibit it at the Kosmos Festival’s curated art gallery.

Alhopuro’s other, non-art-related awards include a Life Saving Medal, awarded in 2006 by then-President of Finland Tarja Halonen “for astute and altruistic actions which saved various human lives in the crisis area of Thailand during the tsunami disaster of 26 December, 2004.”
